Actually, the temp on a plug has little to do with the spark temperature, it is controlled by the length and amount of the porcelan insulator. The longer the path the hotter the tip area of the plug runs, the shorter the cooler. Many factors affect and effect the selection of a spark plug by the factory engineers, but going outside the reccomendation is chancy, even using the conversion charts may get you a problem. Our Savages are fairly low compression so unless you run WFO (wife full open) all the time, either of the 2 recommended plugs will work correctly if the engine is in good shape, ignition system is working correctly and jetting is close. Any of the fancy electrode type plugs usually don't hurt anything and the precious metal ones (platium, etc.) errode the electrodes less and last longer in vehicle use, should work in cycles also.
